LASIK surgery is a great option for those who are no longer satisfied wearing glasses and contact lenses and are interested in vision correction to see clearly. Discover Vision is at the forefront of LASIK surgery in Kansas City and has been performing the procedure since it was first approved by the FDA in the early 1990s.
Full Focus Vision Correction is a procedure that allows people over the age of 40 to see at a range of distances – near, intermediate and far. Unlike LASIK or SMLE which are performed by altering the shape of the cornea, Full Focus is a lens replacement procedure. During the procedure, the natural lens in your eye is replaced with an intraocular lens that allows you to see at a range of distances.
SMILE Vision Correction is the latest advancement in refractive surgery. Discover Vision doctors have been involved with the research and development of this procedure. In fact, Discover Vision has performed more SMILE eye surgery than any other practice in the country. Schedule a free consultation for SMILE, virtual or in-office, to find out if you’re a candidate for this procedure.
At Discover Vision, Intraocular Lens Surgery is the same as Full Focus Vision Correction. During this procedure, the natural lens in your eye is replaced with an intraocular lens or an IOL, to help you see up close, far away, and everything in between. IOL surgery is generally performed on people who are 40 years old or older.
The Light Adjustable Lens, or LAL, is the first lens option that can be customized by you and your eye doctor after surgery. Discover Vision doctors have been instrumental in the research and development of Light Adjustable Lens surgery. The LAL is available for two groups of people: those over 40 who don’t want to wear reading glasses, and those over 65 who want a more advanced option over traditional cataract surgery.
Refractive Lens Exchange is an elective procedure for those who are over the age of 40 who suffer from presbyopia and don’t want to wear reading glasses. While LASIK and SMILE are refractive procedures that are performed on the outside of the eye, a Refractive Lens Exchange is performed on the inside of the eye. During a RLE, the natural lens inside the eye is replaced with an intraocular lens (IOL) to provide the ability to see at a range of distances.
PRK is a vision correction procedure that is an alternative to LASIK surgery. PRK is often recommended for those who are not good candidates for LASIK due to having thinner corneas. PRK is an effective procedure to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.
Implantable Collamer Lens, or ICL, is a procedure where a lens is permanently placed inside your eye between the eye’s natural lens and the colored part of your eye, the iris. The goal with ICL surgery is to help people who are fifty plus who have not yet been diagnosed with a cataract, but who may not be good candidates for LASIK or SMILE, to improve nearsightedness.
Discover Vision Legends has an optical shop that is open to the public. Whether you are a patient here or simply want to come in and try on frames and sunglasses, our optical is open during the same hours as our eye clinic. No appointment is required to visit Discover Vision’s optical in KCK.
Do you wear contact lenses? Contact lenses require a prescription obtained during an eye exam every 12 months. During your contact lens fitting, the doctor will make sure that the lenses you are wearing are still the best for your eyes, or will fit you into a new lens. Your contact lens prescription will be given to you and it may be filled at Discover Vision KCK or through another provider.
If you have diabetes, it is important to have routine eye exams to monitor the health of your eyes. Depending on the severity of your condition, your eye doctor may also recommend diabetic eye checks every 6 months to monitor your vision more closely.
Discover Vision Legends provides routine eye exams and accepts the most locally available insurance plans. Routine vision benefits are not always included in your medical insurance policy. It is best to verify benefits before your exam or to call our office at 816-478-1230 and provide your insurance information so that our team can verify your vision benefits ahead of your appointment.
Being nearsighted, or myopic, means that you can see things close up more clearly than you can far away. Nearsightedness can be treated with eyeglasses, contact lenses, or with laser vision correction procedures such as LASIK or SMILE.
Being farsighted, or hyperopic, means that you can see things far away more clearly than you can close up. Farsightedness can be treated with eyeglasses, contact lenses, or with laser vision correction procedures such as LASIK or SMILE.
Presbyopia occurs around the age of 45 when the lens in our eyes begins to harden, making it difficult to read or see things up close. Reading glasses can be helpful, but often, people want a treatment option that will last longer without the use of readers. Refractive procedures such as Light Adjustable Lens, Refractive Lens Exchange, or Intraocular Lens Surgery may be discussed as surgical options.
Astigmatism is a type of refractive error that occurs when the surface of the eye is not perfectly round. Light entering the astigmatic eye is unable to focus on one point and instead causes blurry or distorted vision. Astigmatism can be treated with eyeglasses, contact lenses, or through LASIK or SMILE.
Having dry eyes simply means that the eyes are not producing enough moisture to stay properly lubricated. Dry eye can be caused by environmental irritants, changes in hormones, staring at a computer or device too long without blinking adequately, smoking, and more. Discover Vision Legends treats dry eye through medicated or over-the-counter eye drops, and sometimes, through surgical or other procedures for those with severe dry eye.
Macular degeneration or AMD is a condition that causes issues with your central field of vision. Vision may become blurry, straight lines may appear wavy, and blind spots may make it difficult to see clearly. Discover Vision’s retina specialists manage and treat macular degeneration. Routine eye exams and medical checkups are important in monitoring the progression of AMD and preventing additional vision loss.
